LAKOS (AP) — A Lagos man was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison for buying a generic drug without a prescription. U. S. District Judge Kimie Kastelan of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s federal office said the man would be sentenced to two years in prison without parole.
Kastelan ordered the man to submit a criminal information, which was not disclosed by the U. Food and Drug Administration, after his arrest.
The Food and Drug Administration has issued warnings about the sale and distribution of the generic drug Viagra, the agency says, but has not told the FDA about the risk of serious health consequences.
“The FDA’s analysis of the information available on the website does not support the potential risk,” Kastelan said.
Kastelan said he was concerned about how the man got into the pharmacy, and he also asked a customer not to return the prescription.
The FDA found that the man, who did not have a prescription for the drug, sold the drug to undercover agents. The FDA said it found that the man had over three hundred pills of Viagra each day in the United States, including from Lagos, according to the agency.
The FDA’s investigation also found that the man had no medical conditions that would have caused his death. The FDA said the man had a history of liver disease, and he was taking nitrate drugs for heart problems.
The man is being held in federal custody.
The case was investigated by the U. Attorney’s Office in New York and the U. Food and Drug Administration in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.

Attorney’s Office in New York said it does not yet know what kind of charges to file against the man. The U. Attorney’s Office in New York said he did not have specific information on the man’s criminal history, and he did not make any further comment.
